Christian Poltéra
Christian Poltéra was born in Zurich in 1977. He was a pupil of Nancy Chumachenco and Boris Pergamenschikow before studying with Heinrich Schiff in Salzburg and Vienna.
As a soloist he gives concerts with numerous renowned orchestras such as the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, SWR Radio Symphony Orchestra Baden-Baden / Freiburg, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, the Oslo and Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestras, Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI Torino, Orquesta Nacional de Espańa, Orchestra dell’Accademia di Santa Cecilia Rome, the Vienna and Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestras as well as with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and Camerata Salzburg. He has thus worked with many distinguished conductors such as Vladimir Fedoseyev, Riccardo Chailly, Adam Fischer, Bernard Haitink, Leonard Slatkin, Heinz Holliger, Heinrich Schiff, Paavo Järvi, Sir Andrew Davis, Marcello Viotti, Armin Jordan, and David Zinman.
In May 2006 Christian Poltéra made his US-debut as the soloist of the American Symphony Orchestra at Avery Fisher Hall New York.
In the 2009/10 season he will appear as soloist with different orchestras, such as the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra (D. Runnicles), NDR Radio Symphony Orchestra (C. v. Dohnanyi), Konzerthausorchester Berlin (M. Venzago), Bamberg Symphony Orchestra (R. Ticciati) and the Symphony Orchestra Lucerne (J. Gaffigan).
Furthermore, Christian Poltéra is a passionate chamber musician, collaborating with artists like Mitsuko Uchida, Christian Tetzlaff, Leonidas Kavakos, Gidon Kremer, Julius Drake, Lars Vogt, Leif Ove Andsnes, Carolin Widmann, Jörg Widmann as well as with the Artemis, Zehetmair and Auryn Quartet. He works regularly with the pianists Kathryn Stott and Polina Leschenko.
He is always a welcome guest at renowned festivals such as Salzburg, Berlin, Heimbach, Vienna, Lucerne, Zurich, Risřr, Lockenhaus, London and Perth and at the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg.
His recordings on CD which include the cello concertos by Dvořák and Toch as well as various chamber music appear on the EMI, Deutsche Grammophon, Chandos, Naxos and Tacet labels.
Christian Poltéra gained special attention of the international press for a highly successful three CD series on the Swedish label BIS, featuring the cello concertos of Othmar Schoeck, Arthur Honegger (“Diapason d’Or”) and Frank Martin (“BBC Music Choice”, “Editor’s Choice” Gramophone Magazine) combined with seldom-heard chamber music works by these composers.
His latest CD featuring the cello concertos by Dutilleux and Lutoslawski will be released on the BIS label in autumn 2009 (RSO Vienna, Jac van Steen).
Between 2004 and 2006 Christian Poltéra was a member of the prestigious New Generation Artists’ scheme of BBC Radio 3 in London and received the Borletti-Buitoni Award in the same year. Appointed by Palais des Beaux Arts Brussels and Concertgebouw Amsterdam, he has been “Rising Star” of the European Concert House Organisation in 2006/07.
Christian Poltéra is part of the newly founded string trio with Frank Peter Zimmermann and Antoine Tamestit, which regularly appears at renowned concert series.
