Daniel Behle has become well-known to a wider audience ever since the release of the award-winning recording of Mozart's “Die Zauberflöte” under René Jacobs in September 2010. His interpretation of Tamino earned glowing praise from music critics, who compared him to the young Fritz Wunderlich.
The tenor has also made a name for himself as a Lied singer and works with pianists such as Sveinung Bjelland, Oliver Schnyder and Alexander Schmalcz. His debut CD with works by Schubert, Beethoven, Grieg, Britten and Trojahn was selected by the Metropolitan Opera Guild as one of the 15 best new releases of 2009. His following releases “Die schöne Müllerin/Auf dem Strom” and “Dichterliebe” (Capriccio) also received outstanding reviews. His Radio France recital debut (Beethoven “An die ferne Geliebte”) was followed by appreances at the Schubertiade (spring 2011) and the Eppaner Liedsommer (“Die schöne Müllerin”, July 2011). In the 2011/12 season he can be heard with recitals at the Cuvilliés Theater Munich (“Die schöne Müllerin”), Laeiszhalle Hamburg and Kulturring Heilbronn (Brahms “Die schöne Magelone”), Prinzregententheater Munich (“Dichterliebe”) and at the Schwetzingen Festival (Beethoven, Schubert, Grieg and Strauss).
Daniel Behle has appeared at the leading European opera houses, including Milan's La Scala, the Vienna State Opera, the Bavarian State Opera Munich, the Opera Frankfurt, the Berlin State Opera, Hamburg State Opera and the Royal Opera in Stockholm. Future engagements will take him as Ferrando in “Così fan tutte” to the Opera Frankfurt, as Belmonte in “Die Entführung aus dem Serail” to the Grand Théâtre de Genève, and as Tamino to the Bavarian State Opera. In spring 2012 he will debut at the Opéra National de Paris performing Camille de Rossillon in “Die lustige Witwe”.
Daniel Behle's concert repertoire includes Bach's great oratorios, Handel's “Messiah”, Mozart's “Requiem”, Rossini's “Stabat mater” and “Petite messe solennelle”, Dvořák's “Requiem” and Mendelssohn's “Elijah”.
He has given concerts with the WDR Radio Orchestra, the Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam, the Capella Augustina and the Beethovenorchester Bonn. In December 2011 he makes his debut with the Dresden Staatskapelle under the baton of Christian Thielemann in Bach's “Christmas Oratorio” followed in April 2012 by Haydn’s “Die Schöpfung” in Stuttgart and the Philharmonie Berlin with the Bachakademie Stuttgart under the direction of Helmuth Rilling .
After studying trombone and composition, Daniel Behle completed his studies in voice with distinction at the University of Music and Theatre in Hamburg. He won first prize at several prestigious vocal competitions, among them the Robert Stolz Competition and the Queen Sonja International Music Competition in Oslo. The Hamburg native currently lives in Basel.
